Author Visits

Comic Panel 1: A friendly woman with dark hair and large glasses waves. Her name is Lindsay. She's wearing a blue dinosaur-hoodie costume with big goofy eyes and red plates. Behind her is a brown-and-white cat who looks sassy. Both of them are inside in a nicely lit room with a bookshelf behind them.

Lindsay: Hi, I'm Lindsay and I'm a cartoonist!

Cat: Why are you in a dinosaur hoodie?

Lindsay: Because this is a COMIC!
Comic Panel 2: Lindsay and the cat are now on top of the world as Lindsay gestures dramatically above her. Various forms of the comics medium float above her with small illustrations and labeled text: comic strips, comic books, webcomics, zines and minis, manga and graphic novels. Her cat companion is amazed at the imagery

Lindsay: Comics have a fascinating history and come in so many forms across the world!

Cat: Whoa, comics are rad!
Comic Panel 3: Lindsay and the cat are back inside the previous room, which now has several kids hanging out doing various comics activities. Lindsay is happily pointing to a whiteboard with comics teaching illustrations on it. The cat has his ears down as he hunches on the floor with an anxious expression of Fear Of Missing Out. Lindsay: Making comics encourages skills like critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration...and it's fun! Cat: Man, I wanna learn comics!
Comic Panel 4: Lindsay is leaning out of the comic panel and pointing down with her right hand. Behind her, the cat has found a comic book to dig into while sitting on a comfy pillow and has a happy heart above his head. Lindsay: You're in luck! I teach comics in guest talks and workshops! Testimonials

Lindsay Hornsby’s visit to our school library was nothing short of spectacular! Speaking to two classes at once, she held every single student’s attention with her deep knowledge of the comic-making process. For our students, who reach for graphic novels constantly, seeing a professional author and illustrator explain their craft and share their personal experiences was invaluable. Her ability to connect her journey to the students’ passions was truly amazing. It was clear that she sparked a level of excitement for literacy and art within the group.

Matthew H., 4th Grade Teacher

Lindsay was SO engaging with our students! They love reading graphic novels, and were so excited to see the process that goes into making graphic novels – it was more in depth than they ever imagined. Students were engaged and asking questions the whole time, and were sad to go at the end of the presentation!

Mrs. Covey, 4th Grade Teacher
